Mario and I decided to head to London for a quick weekend getaway. This makes trip # 4 to London, I do enjoy visiting London! Since we left Stuttgart on a 8:20pm flight, we decided to stay at the Courtyard at Gatwick Airport.
Mario and I decided to add another country to our list. Greece marks European country #21 for me, making a total of 25 countries worldwide. We took an early morning flight from Stuttgart to Athens. We were a little delayed due to the fact the plane needed to be de-iced. The flight was 2.5 hrs. Athens welcomed us with cloudy and warm temps in the 70's.
With the Halloween spirit on everyone’s mind, I started my adventure to Romania. With Mario having already visited Romania, I joined a group for a few days of exploring the land of Dracula. Romania makes European country # 20!
I had the opportunity to see the yearly tradition/festival of watching the cows come home from the mountains in Mayrhofen, Austria. This cattle drive celebrates the return of healthy cows from the mountains, where they have been all summer.
Mario and I enjoyed a few days away and crossed a few places off our list! Our first stop was the city of Cologne or Köln. The Cologne Cathedral is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with construction starting around 1248. The cathedral has been on my must visit list since we arrive, so I was excited to finally see it. After exploring we drove about an hour to our hotel in Essen.
Today we explored the Pile Dwellings of Unteruhldingen which is one of the largest archaeological open air museum in Europe. It is located on Lake Constance on the Germany side and was about 1.5 hours from the house.
Regret for the things we did can be tempered by time.
It is regret for the things we did not do that is inconsolable. Sidney Harris Just got back from spending a few weeks visiting family and friends in the states. I celebrated my nephew's first birthday and took him to his first Pirate's baseball game.
Mario and I had a few days to explore Portugal, which makes European country #19 for me. Our first stop was Porto which is the the 2nd largest city.
Over Spring break, I spent 8 days exploring the country of Morocco. Morocco is located on the northern part of Africa with Spain to its north and the Atlantic Ocean to the west.
I have visited Venice twice before but only for the day and I wanted to explore more of the city, so I figured what better time than during Carnival. Carnival time which is 10 days before Shrove Tuesday, the start of Lent. Mario's work schedule didn't permit him to join, so I went on another solo trip
We were feeling the winter blues, so we decided we needed some fun in the sun and what better way than exploring an island! We took a morning flight to the island of Mallorca (Majorca) which is off the coast of Spain and part of the Balearic Islands.
A friend and I explored the city of Nördlingen and it's Christmas Market. It was about 2 hours from the house. It is another walled city on the Romantic Road. Interesting fact is it was established in a 15 million-year old meteorite crater, which gives the town its circular shape!
With the year slowly coming to a close, I wanted to add another country to my list. So Copenhagen, Denmark makes European country #17. With Mario away on business and already visited Copenhagen and the dogs at the sitter, I decided to travel solo.
