Over Memorial Day weekend, Mario and I took advance of crossing another country off our list. We traveled to Barcelona, Spain. Spain makes country # 16 for me!  We arrived early evening and took the Aerobus into the city center and then walked about 15 mins to our hotel. Our hotel is located on the northern part the city but close to a train station which has two metro lines.
The next day was busy seeing the sites Barcelona had to offer. It was a sunny warm day but with a wonderful breeze which cooled things off. We walked towards the beach which was about an hour walk but saw things along the way.
Did you know that Barcelona is one of Spain's most historic cities. It was founded by the Romans in 15A.D. We explored the Barri Gothic (Gothic Quarter) which is a mazed of cobblestone streets filled with churches, palaces and much more.
We walked La Rambla which is a street filled with vendors, markets and attractions.  We saw many buildings which were created by the architect Abtoni Gaudi. You will find his one of kind designs around the city.
We had a 2pm tickets to explore the inside of La Sagrada Familia which is Gaudi's unfinished works. Construction began in 1882, but sadly Gaudi was hit by a tram and the church was never finished. Some believe it should stay unfinished but a private foundation is working to finish it by 2026 which will be the centennial of Gaudi's death. Guest can visit both towers, but we chose just to explore the inside of the church.
From there we walked back towards the coast and spent the evening enjoying the coast.
The next day we decided to explore the largest green space. Mountjuic overlooks the city and the sea. Our first stop was the magic fountain which is a water show but sadly didn't run on Sunday until the following week. From there we enjoyed the views of the city as we took escalators up the hill. Along the way we saw some sites. We decided to take the cable car to the top and walk down. At the top you can tour the stadium which was used in the 1992 Olympics. Along the hillside are garden to explore and the castle sit on top of the hill.
We left the next day on an early afternoon flight. We had great weather and was able to explore another new place.  Another great trip in the books!
