It has been 4 months since we went on our last adventure, which seem like forever ago. Things have somewhat calmed a bit here, so borders have reopened so we can travel within the EU.
With COVID 19 halting my travel plans and life for that matter, I am adjusting to working from home and balancing my time between Grad School and my to do list.
Tis the season for Christmas Markets. It has been four years since I have been to Esslingen Christmas Market, so a friend and I decided to go.
Mario and I decided to head to London for a quick weekend getaway. This makes trip # 4 to London, I do enjoy visiting London! Since we left Stuttgart on a 8:20pm flight, we decided to stay at the Courtyard at Gatwick Airport.
Mario and I decided to add another country to our list. Greece marks European country #21 for me, making a total of 25 countries worldwide. We took an early morning flight from Stuttgart to Athens. We were a little delayed due to the fact the plane needed to be de-iced. The flight was 2.5 hrs. Athens welcomed us with cloudy and warm temps in the 70's.
With the Halloween spirit on everyone’s mind, I started my adventure to Romania. With Mario having already visited Romania, I joined a group for a few days of exploring the land of Dracula. Romania makes European country # 20!
I had the opportunity to see the yearly tradition/festival of watching the cows come home from the mountains in Mayrhofen, Austria. This cattle drive celebrates the return of healthy cows from the mountains, where they have been all summer.
Mario and I enjoyed a few days away and crossed a few places off our list! Our first stop was the city of Cologne or Köln. The Cologne Cathedral is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with construction starting around 1248. The cathedral has been on my must visit list since we arrive, so I was excited to finally see it. After exploring we drove about an hour to our hotel in Essen.
